The Deputy Governor of Plateau State, Hon. Josephine Chundung Piyo, has formally resigned her membership of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), marking a major political development in the state.
Hon. Piyo’s resignation was contained in a letter dated December 30, 2025, addressed to the Chairman of the PDP in Sharubutu Ward, Bachi District, Riyom Local Government Area. The letter was officially acknowledged as received on December 31, 2025.
In the letter, the Deputy Governor stated that her decision was based on personal conviction and careful consideration of prevailing political developments in the country, adding that her resignation takes immediate effect.
She expressed appreciation to the PDP for offering her a political platform and the opportunity to contribute to governance and democratic processes at different levels. Hon. Piyo also thanked party members for the support she received during her time in the party, describing the experience as invaluable.
“I wish the party well in its future endeavors,” she noted, while extending her warm regards to party leadership and members across the state.
Copies of the resignation letter were forwarded to the Chairman of the PDP in Riyom Local Government Area, formally concluding her membership at both ward and local government levels.
The resignation of the Plateau State Deputy Governor has sparked political reactions across the state, with analysts describing the move as significant, especially ahead of evolving political realignments in the build-up to future elections.
As of the time of filing this report, Hon. Josephine Chundung Piyo has not publicly announced her next political step or whether she intends to join another political party.
Hon. Piyo hails from Lwa Village, Bachi District, Riyom LGA, Plateau State, and currently serves as the Deputy Governor of Plateau State.
