The Plateau State Police Command has vowed to intensify the crackdown on illegal mining activities following the issuance of an Executive Order by the Plateau State Government.

Commissioner of Police (CP) Emmanuel Olugbemiga Adesina reiterated the commitment of the Police and other security agencies to enforce the order during a press conference organized by the Plateau State Technical Committee on Mining Reform. The event took place at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre in Jos.

Represented by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations (DOPs), DCP S.S. Japhthan, CP Adesina made it clear that there is sufficient manpower and coordination between the police and other security forces to halt illegal mining operations in the state. He warned individuals involved in these activities to comply voluntarily with the order to avoid being arrested and prosecuted in line with the law.

“The police and other security agencies have already made significant deployments to various mining sites and have intensified patrols to curb illegal mining,” Adesina said. He further stressed that any defiance of the Executive Order would be met with swift consequences, urging those affected to cease their activities immediately.

CP Adesina encouraged citizens to support the police by reporting suspicious activities and provided several emergency contact numbers for the public to reach out to the authorities with relevant information.

The Command emphasized the importance of public cooperation in ensuring the successful enforcement of the order and safeguarding Plateau State’s resources.
