Plateau State has witnessed the highest level of impunity under a Governor who claims to be a former lawmaker and lawyer and suffered most educationally backward under a man who was Vice Chancellor of a University, Prof Sunny Tyoden.

The duo of Lalong and Tyoden have carried so shamefully and exposed themselves as the worst political combination the state had ever produced. This is a combination that would have brought positive changes to Plateau but its painfully, the completely worst opposite.

The duo have completely forgotten their professional callings and obviously overwhelmed by their incompetence and sheer lack of preparedness for political governance.

Which the Plateau State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP ) has been following this with keen interest.
The unfortunate development of the ongoing industrial dispute between the unions of the State owned tertiary institutions and state government readily comes to mind.

The party is worried and is at a loss as to why Lalong has refused to take action to end the striking workers in the state by meeting their demand while Tyoden, a former VC, looks on comfortably. “Imagine their children are in these schools”.

The careless and insensitive attitude of the apc led government over its refusal to end this incessant strike action that has caused irreparable damage on not just the State but to the entire country, calls for mass action.

It is no news that the State Tertiary institutions have been on strike for the past 6 six months to press home their demand which includes non- remittance of billions of their cooperatives and union dues, non remittance of salary deductions by the State government to federal mortgage bank for workers to access loans to help build their families, and also for forcing a non workable PLASCHEMA policy on workers who already have a contributory scheme that is working for them. There is also non payment of salaries as at when due and under workforce in all the institutions as a result of government failure to employ fresh workers. This has been going on for the past years of the apc’s administration in the State under Lalong. The situation today has led to the total collapsed of our educational system and workers welfare in the state.

It’s unfortunate and regrettable as parents watched helplessly that education of every child being infringed and the State treats to a manipulated education crisis. We wish to remind Governor Lalong and his Deputy, Tyoden of their oath of office which is to protect the constitution of this country and her citizens.

As we speak, millions of children are watching helplessly with some in tears as the government and union engage in a show of might as a result of poor governance for the past seven years.

We want to tell the government that mere press statements are not enough in addressing this incessant strike actions. Governor Lalong should immediately meet with the unions to salvage the situation as opposed to delegating some of his officials,,since this strategy of delegation of committes has not work.

With a heavy heart we call on Governor Lalong,Tyoden and the apc to stop politicising our educational system especially on the appointment of Rectors, and other heads of the institutions. For example, the Plateau state Polytechnic has completely collapsed as a result of poor leadership. The Governor should for once , consider the plight of the suffering workers, parents, and the students in the State and the future of education of our children.

Signed …
