The Deputy Chairman of Bokkos Local Government Council, Hon. Wallangko Mahwel Joseph, has outlined major achievements recorded under the leadership of Chairman Samuel Amalau, stressing that the administration’s impact is already visible across the education, water, agriculture, and infrastructure sectors.

He said the council has remained committed to its campaign promise of delivering “a different Bokkos,” adding that the leadership has matched words with action since taking office in October 2024.

Hon. Wallangko highlighted the local government’s landmark intervention in education, where more than 1,000 students received free JAMB registration. He explained that many of these beneficiaries have now secured admission into tertiary institutions through the support of the council.

“We firstly, registered jamb freely for more than 1,000 students and this students have came back to appreciate us, because as of then, those student had no money to register the jamb, but we in the Local Government we did it for them, and some of them are the tertiary institution cot-cee of the Local Government this alone is something that in the process of time it will be difficult for them but the Local Government had done something for them.”

He noted that the administration has also strengthened agricultural activities by purchasing 10 trucks of fertilizer for distribution and providing nearly 100 water pump machines to farmers to boost production. Motorcycles were also given to party stakeholders to enhance economic activities at the grassroots.

The deputy chairman said the council has tackled water scarcity by constructing boreholes in several communities, including Mudir, New Layout, Marish, and Jhar. He assured that more boreholes would be provided in other areas experiencing water challenges.

He further listed ongoing rural road grading projects aimed at improving transportation and the movement of goods. These include the Fakos–Quarters road, the Konek–Butura–Polo link road, the Dankur–Ruwe route, with work currently progressing in the Kolere axis.

“And in terms of scarcity, it also help in responding promptly which there is distress calls we were able to provides scholarship to students that are Local Government citizens and that alone will ensuring that it will help reduce to burden of the parents.”

Hon. Wallangko also emphasized the administration’s intensified security efforts, revealing that collaboration with security agencies, local vigilantes, and residents has helped restore calm in previously troubled communities.

He added that the council has been actively involved in confidence-building among communities, helping to reduce tensions and ensure peace. Many displaced persons from Mushere and other affected areas have started returning home as security improves.

“And the securities too have been complying with the chairman, we give them directives and then they responds, that’s just the truth. Sometimes we do sleep in the bush together with them just for us to make sure that they are doing the right thing.”

The deputy chairman acknowledged that numerous other projects—including bridge construction and the provision of logistics such as vehicles—are part of the council’s development strides. He noted that he was provided with a Hilux to enhance his official duties.

He praised Chairman Amalau for his performance, describing him as one of the top five local government chairmen in Plateau State. According to him, the chairman recently received an Agriculture Ambassador award in Abuja after an independent assessment.

Hon. Wallangko assured residents that the administration would continue to work tirelessly to deliver more projects, adding that the remaining one year of their tenure would be used to consolidate and break new grounds in development.
