The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has promised to bring justice to the victims of an alleged unlawful human organ harvesting in Plateau involving Noah Kekere and two other accused.
Kekere and his partner were said to have harvested a woman’s kidney during operation in a hospital in Jos.
They are currently being held by police.
In an interview on Tuesday with NAPTIP Director of Legal and Prosecution, Mr Hassan Tahir, he told NAN that the agency was on the issue and had carried out its own investigation on the matter.
“The police are currently conducting their own investigation, and justice will be served in the end.”
“We carried out our own investigations.” We have the authority to prosecute under the law.
“We are working with the police and keeping a close eye on the case to ensure that justice is served.”
“We also understand that the suspect runs a hospital but he is not a member of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA),” stated the official.
Tahir observed that illegal organ harvesting was getting more common.
“NAPTIP has organised a series of awareness campaigns in order to reduce it.” We went to markets and hospitals to raise awareness, sensitise, and educate people about the dangers of organ harvesting. We are currently looking into five further incidences of organ harvesting. “We urge the perpetrators of the evil act to stop,” he stated.
