Former Super Eagles captain, John Mikel Obi, has warned Victor Osimhen against actions that place personal interest above the national team.
Mikel Obi made the statement while speaking on his podcast about a heated moment involving Osimhen and Ademola Lookman.
The incident occurred during Nigeria’s 4–0 win over Mozambique at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Both players were involved in an angry exchange on the pitch after Lookman failed to pass the ball.
Osimhen was seen reacting angrily and later signalled to the bench, requesting to be substituted.
Mikel Obi expressed displeasure over Osimhen’s body language during the match.
“The part where he stopped playing, running and making efforts; that part I don’t like,” Mikel said.
He added that football is about teamwork, stressing that no individual is bigger than the Super Eagles.
