A stalwart of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State has alleged that some party members, including state lawmakers, are secretly planning to defect to the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

The source, who spoke anonymously, said Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s rising popularity and visible development projects across the 17 local government areas have caused unease within the APC.

He expressed disappointment over what he called betrayal by some members who publicly identify with the APC but privately support the PDP because of the Governor’s performance.

“I know some of them, but I don’t want to mention names. Let the party leadership investigate the claims and deal with it accordingly,” he said.

A member of the Plateau State House of Assembly confirmed that some politicians are indeed drawn to Mutfwang’s leadership, noting that everyone has the constitutional right to associate with any political party.

“Politics aside, what is important to us is the delivering of the dividends of democracy. We are first of all citizens of Plateau and as Plateau patriots we are all witnesses of the developmental strides in the State,” he said.

He highlighted ongoing road projects, youth empowerment programs, and regular salary payments, crediting the Governor for restoring peace and transforming the state capital into one of the cleanest in Northern Nigeria.

A political analyst said Mutfwang’s performance has built him an organic following that transcends party lines, arguing that if he ever joined the APC, it would strengthen the party and benefit President Bola Tinubu politically.
