Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has formally presented the Staff of Office to Miskoom Ambassador Yahaya Kwande, officially installing him as the 28th Long Kwo of Kwo Chiefdom.

The presentation took place on Wednesday, July 17, 2025, in Kwande town, Qua’an-Pan Local Government Area. It also marked the elevation of the Long Kwo stool to the status of a Second Class Traditional Ruler.

Governor Mutfwang described the ceremony as “significant and deeply symbolic,” reaffirming his commitment to strengthening traditional institutions under his “Time is Now” agenda.

He praised the peaceful transition and commended the maturity shown by the Kwo people and kingmakers after the passing of the late Long Kwo, Col. Fidelis Longtoe Atahiru (Rtd).

“To our newly installed Royal Father, your ascension is not only divinely ordained but a solemn call to service,” the Governor said. “Lead with wisdom, fairness, and inclusiveness. Be a rallying point for unity.”

Mutfwang added that the recognition and elevation of the Long Kwo stool reflects the cultural and strategic importance of the Kwo Chiefdom within Plateau State’s traditional structure.

In his acceptance speech, the 97-year-old monarch expressed deep gratitude to the Governor and the people of Kwo.

“I accept this responsibility with humility and promise to serve as a bridge to our past and a guide into a hopeful future,” Yahaya Kwande stated.

A respected diplomat and elder statesman, the new Long Kwo assured that he would draw from his vast experience to promote peace, unity, and progress in the chiefdom and Plateau State at large.

Governor Mutfwang congratulated the monarch once more and urged the people to support him as he leads with wisdom and integrity.
