Hon. Hitler Pwajok, Special Adviser on Youth Mobilization and Engagement to Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang, has strongly criticized Brekete Family’s Ahmed Isah for his prejudicial remarks against Plateau men. Pwajok has called for an immediate retraction and apology to the people of Plateau State.
Pwajok stated, “The video circulated on social media by the leader of Brekete Family, which unfairly labels Plateau men as lazy, has sparked outrage and widespread condemnation, not just among Plateau men but also among all citizens with a sense of justice.”
He emphasized that Plateau State, known for its peace-loving, hardworking, and patriotic people, found Isah’s comments to be derogatory, misleading, and akin to hate speech. Pwajok demanded an immediate apology, stating, “His statements are harmful and could stigmatize Plateau youths in their social and professional networks.”
He further highlighted that Plateau women have distinguished themselves in self-development and entrepreneurship, contributing greatly to their communities. These women have raised notable men who have made significant impacts in Nigeria and beyond.
Pwajok also pointed out that Plateau is a major food producer in Nigeria, with its men and women working tirelessly to ensure food security. He emphasized that the state is the largest producer of Irish potatoes in Nigeria, making the nation indebted to Plateau for its contributions.
Pwajok viewed Isah’s comments as an insult to many Plateau natives who have excelled nationally and internationally, including Big Brother winner Kevin Pam, football stars Victor Moses, Ahmed Musa, and Mikel Obi, and entertainment icons like Jeremiah Gyang, Ice Prince, and P-Square.
He also mentioned the achievements of individuals like Jerry Mallo, a design engineer and founder of Bennie Automobile, and David Daser, whose hard work earned him a presidential appointment.
The statement by Ahmed Isah was further criticized as an affront to the legacy of Plateau’s past heroes, such as Chief (Dr.) Solomon Lar, General Yakubu Gowon, and J.D. Gomwalk, who contributed greatly to Nigeria’s democracy and development.
Pwajok asserted that while Plateau people are open to constructive criticism, they will not tolerate disrespect. He noted that unlike in places where illegal activities are accepted, Plateau men engage in honorable labor, such as mining, to provide for their families.
He concluded by emphasizing that Plateau people are humble and God-fearing, with a rich heritage reflected in great men of God like Apostle Joshua Selman and Pastor Ishaku Chingtok. He warned that the Plateau government would not allow anyone to mistake their simplicity for weakness and demanded an open apology from Ahmed Isah, advising against such divisive rhetoric in a nation that should promote unity and tolerance.
“We are Plateau, and we are proud of our heritage,” he affirmed.
