Four youths were killed on Friday night during an attack by gunmen at a mining site in the Butura community, Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State. The assailants, who reportedly spoke the Fulani dialect, stormed the site around 9 pm, shooting four victims dead and injuring five others.

The President of the Butura Youth Movement, Sabastine Magit, identified the deceased as Bwefuk Musa, 21; Klingshak Dickson, 21; Promise Joshua, 20; and Nyam Abaka, 20.

“This is another unprovoked attack on innocent youths working at a mining site in Bokkos LGA. It comes just days after a similar incident in Wumat village where five family members were killed, including a pregnant woman,” Magit stated.

He noted that the attackers escaped before nearby military personnel could intervene. Over 20 individuals from the Butura community have reportedly been killed in the past month in attacks allegedly carried out by Fulani assailants.

The injured victims are currently receiving medical treatment as security forces monitor the escalating tensions in the area.
