Mr. Adeyeye Ajayi, a personal assistant to former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon (retd.), has denied rumours claiming that the elder statesman is dead.
Ajayi described the reports circulating on social media as false and misleading.
He urged members of the public to ignore the claims and avoid spreading unverified information.
According to him, General Gowon is alive and in good health.
He said the former Nigerian leader remains active and continues to participate in public activities.
Ajayi added that Gowon still contributes to national discussions, especially on peace, unity, and development.
He warned that spreading false news can cause unnecessary panic and emotional distress.
The aide advised Nigerians to always confirm information from credible sources before sharing it.
