The Special Assistant to the Delta State Governor on Youth Development, Ambassador Elvis Akpobi has called on Nigerian Youths to shun Crime and Drug Abuse as the yuletide season approaches. He made this known in a statement issued to journalists in Asaba, the Delta State Capital. He stressed that social pressure and unrealistic expectations to provide for family and friends during the yuletide season has push a lot of youths to resort to crime and other illegal activities in order to make ends meet.
He called on Nigerian Youths not to feel pressured by society during the yuletide, urging them to give according what they have, not to go into criminal ventures in order to impress society. He used the opportunity to appeal to philanthropists and other spirited individuals to reach out to young people during this yuletide in order to help reduce pressure on them.
Ambassador Akpobi noted that Christmas is a season for the expression love, especially to the less privileged. He sighted example with the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ which is being celebrated during the yuletide, which shows how God expressed His love for humanity by sending his son to the earth, hence the need for everyone to reach out to others who can’t afford certain necessities.
He stressed that the yuletide is not a season to engage in criminal activities capable of undermining the peace and security of the country. Ambassador Akpobi called on security agencies to be professional in the discharge of their duties during the yuletide to ensure that lives and property are safeguarded without casualties.
