Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang emphasized his administration’s efforts to address insecurity and economic hardships in Plateau State.
In his address on independence day as Nigeria clocked 64, Governor Mutfwang reassured citizens that his government is committed to rebuilding Plateau’s foundation and providing relief amid the nation’s current challenges.
“We are not resting on our oars in our commitment to restoring security and peace to every part of our state,” Governor Mutfwang emphasized, acknowledging the ongoing insecurity but noting that progress is being made through the tireless efforts of security agencies.
While the governor celebrated Nigeria’s unity and resilience over the last six decades, he also addressed the economic hardship affecting many. “This year’s Independence celebration comes at a time that we are faced with economic hardship, insecurity, and other criminal activities. This has caused untold pain to many across the nation,” he said, expressing solidarity with the struggles of Plateau citizens. He promised that his administration is working on policies in key sectors like agriculture, transportation, education, and healthcare to cushion the effects of the economic downturn.
Governor Mutfwang urged patience, as the solutions may take time, but assured citizens that his administration’s commitment to transforming Plateau State remains firm. “My team and I are resolute in our determination to transform Plateau State. We must rebuild the foundations that have been gradually eroded and chart a new way going forward,” he affirmed.
In a notable gesture, the governor also granted pardon to five individuals who had served their prison sentences and demonstrated good conduct, in line with his prerogative of mercy as enshrined in the Nigerian constitution.
Governor Mutfwang closed his address with a call for unity and hope, stressing that despite the challenges, Nigeria remains strong. “We have overcome great adversity before, and I have no doubt that we will rise above these current difficulties as well,” he said, wishing all citizens a peaceful and hopeful Independence celebration.
