To improve and enhance the combat efficiency of troops in all sectors, the African Union has donated equipments ranging from military trucks, water tankers, generators, anti-riot APCs, IED equipment as well as other tent, information and office equipment to the Multinational Joint Task Force Sector 3 Monguno and Operation HADIN KAI OPHK.
The Force Commander, Multinational Joint Task Force MNJTF, Maj. Gen. Abdul Khalifa Ibrahim at the handing Over of critical equipments urged Sector Commander to ensure the equipment donated by African Union are well deployed, operationally utilized and kept maintained and serviceable while also spuning up the Sector to continue to do more in its quest to curb the menace of terrorism within its area of responsibility.
Maj. Gen. Ibrahim noted that MNJTF also facilitated the travel of six personnel from the Sector to the African Union Logistic Base Douala for training on the use, maintenance and repairs of equipments donated by the African Union to the military. “These six trained personnel could be used to train other personnel of the Sector on the use of the equipment”.
“Today’s event is indeed significant not only for the Multinational Joint Task Force but for the entire Armed Forces of Nigeria as critical equipment needed for the conduct of current ond future operations are being handed over to the Multinational Joint Task Force Sector 3 Monguno”, he added.
The Force Commander said, the donation of these much-needed equipment was sequel to his visit to the African Union Logistic Base in Douola Cameroon in November last year where the equipment were identified.
He said, this was followed by series of liaisons between the Headquarters Lake Chad Basin Commission, the Multinational Joint Task Force and the African Union leading to the donation of these equipment and the subsequent handover today. The donation and subsequent Handover is a reflection of the Aftican Unions appreciation of thé efforts of the MNJTF in combatting terrorism in the Lake Chad Region.
He expressed appreciation to the Chief of Defence Staff General Leo Irabor, the Chief of Army Staff Lt General Faruk Yahaya and Theatre Commander JTF North East Operation HADIN KAI in ensuring the successful movement of these equipment from Douola to Maiduguri, and from Banki to Maimatari Cantonment Maiduguri.
He also thanked the Head of mission Ambassador and unrelenting supports and strategic guidance to the MNJTF has kept the MNJTF in the right direction.
The Theatre Commander Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI OPHK Major General Christopher Musa commended AU, HMoD and CDS for their effort in securing the equipment from the African Union, assuring that the equipment will aid the ongoing operations in the theatre and that will boost troop’s fighting efficiency.
Major General GM Mutkut who gave vote of thanks on the equipment received, noted that the effort is highly appreciated and it no doubt give more fighting power and support the operations in the lake Chad region.
