The Federal Government is partnering with Plateau State to convert the historic Nigeria Standard building into a cutting-edge digital innovation hub that will drive job creation and empower young talents across the state.

The Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, disclosed this during a courtesy visit to Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang at the Twin Theatre, New Government House, Rayfield, Jos, on Wednesday. He explained that the initiative supports the shared vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Mutfwang to equip youths with digital skills that will enhance productivity and economic development.
As part of the broader plan, Plateau has been chosen as one of the pilot states for the deployment of 7,000 telecom towers nationwide. This federal initiative aims to boost connectivity in underserved communities while strengthening national security infrastructure.
“Your Excellency, we recognize your efforts. Whatever it takes to make this vision a reality, we will pursue it. We see in Plateau State the key to Nigeria’s success,” Dr. Tijani said, highlighting the state’s contributions to Nigeria’s creative industries. He added that Jos remains a welcoming and talent-rich city with untapped potential.
Dr. Tijani, who shares a longstanding relationship with Plateau, noted that their collaboration began after an earlier meeting in Sweden, from which concrete plans to advance the state’s digital ecosystem emerged.
Emphasizing the need for digital expansion, the Minister said that smart technology could revolutionize critical sectors such as agriculture, healthcare, and security. “For a city like Jos, digital connectivity is not optional, it is essential,” he stressed.
He also unveiled plans for the launch of a Talent City Project in Jos and efforts to promote Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) to create sustainable career opportunities for the youth. He called on young people in Plateau to actively enroll in the 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) Programme, a national effort to build a globally competitive tech workforce.

In response, Governor Mutfwang welcomed the Minister’s visit, calling it timely and strategic. He said it aligns perfectly with his administration’s goal to make Plateau a leading digital innovation hub.
He reflected on the legacy of JD Gomwalk, the founding father of Plateau State, stressing the importance of technological advancement in preserving the state’s identity and securing its future.
The Governor appreciated the Minister’s emphasis on linking technology with security, particularly in addressing challenges in ungoverned northern border areas where increased trans-Sahelian movement has become a concern. “With modern technology, we can implement effective surveillance and security measures—better alternatives than building brick walls like some countries have done,” he said.
Governor Mutfwang concluded warmly, saying, “We appreciate your visit deeply. As you leave, you will not only take strawberries with you, but also the warmth and hospitality that Plateau has to offer.”
