Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested a Lebanese man, Abbas Lakis, for money laundering at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja. The arrest followed an intelligence report that he had on him huge undeclared huge sums of money aboard an Egypt Air aircraft from the Kano Airport en route Lebanon.
A statement by the acting spokesman of the EFCC, Tony Orilade, said at the point of arrest, a thorough search of his luggage uncovered $2,104,936; £163, 740 and €144,680. Other currencies found included.
Riyal 391,838; CHF 3,420; Lira 435 ,£109,000; 10,135 UAE Dirhams; 10,000 Chinese Yuan, 10,000 and Qatar Riyal.
Lakis will be charged to court as soon as investigation is concluded, the spokesman said.
