The fourth edition of the Plateau Impact Awards has officially commenced preparations, with organisers announcing plans to honour individuals, businesses and organisations making remarkable contributions to the development of Plateau State.

The annual event, scheduled for September 13, 2026 at Odilin’s Event Center Jos, aims to recognise outstanding achievements in community service, humanitarian work, entrepreneurship, innovation, arts, culture and media, while inspiring a new generation of leaders committed to societal progress.

According to the organisers, the awards have become a platform for celebrating men and women whose efforts continue to transform communities and promote sustainable development across the state.

They explained that this year’s edition will bring together leaders from the public and private sectors, development partners, entrepreneurs, civil society organisations and community stakeholders to celebrate excellence and impactful leadership.

The organisers said the awards will focus on individuals and organisations that have distinguished themselves in community development, social impact, business innovation and the promotion of Plateau’s cultural heritage.

They stated, “The Plateau Impact Awards 2026 is designed to honour extraordinary individuals, visionary enterprises and community icons driving positive transformation across Plateau State.”

According to them, the initiative seeks to recognise trailblazers who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to humanitarian service, social impact and regional development.

“This highly anticipated civic event celebrates those building a legacy of excellence across multiple sectors while inspiring future leaders to embrace purpose-driven leadership,” the statement added.

The organisers further noted that the awards will spotlight grassroots champions transforming local communities, advocates improving the lives of vulnerable people, entrepreneurs creating jobs through innovation, and media and cultural practitioners projecting a positive image of Plateau State.

They called on residents and stakeholders to support the initiative, stressing that celebrating excellence would encourage more people to contribute meaningfully to the state’s growth and development.

The grand finale of the Purple Preneur Star, organised by Purple Rain Galore, took place at the Zumji Event Centre in Jos with the theme, “Empowering the Next Generation of Entrepreneurs, Innovators and Change-makers.”

The event attracted entrepreneurs, innovators, movie producers, actors, entertainers, political figures, students and other stakeholders committed to promoting youth entrepreneurship, innovation and creativity across Africa.

Speaking at the event, the Chief Executive Officer of Purple Rain Galore, Ahmed Oyiza, said Purple Preneur Star was established to discover, develop and empower entrepreneurs, innovators and creators through mentorship, technology, enterprise development and sustainable opportunities.

She said the initiative was inspired by the conviction that talent is universal but opportunities are not, adding that the organisation is determined to ensure that no talent is wasted and no dream is abandoned.

“Purple Rain Galore exists because potential should never be determined by circumstances. We are transforming ideas into businesses, businesses into jobs, and jobs into communities that will prosper. We discover talent, build entrepreneurs, create opportunities and empower young people through mentorship, technology and enterprise development,” she said.

Oyiza described Purple Preneur Star as an African entrepreneurial reality show designed to provide visibility for businesses, develop leadership capacity and connect participants with opportunities that will help them build sustainable enterprises.

Veteran Nollywood actor Sani Mu’azu urged young entrepreneurs and aspiring filmmakers not to underestimate their potential because of their location, insisting that success can be achieved from Plateau State.

He noted that Jos has played a significant role in the growth of both Nollywood and Kannywood, urging participants to leverage networking opportunities and learn from experienced professionals.

“You can make it from Plateau. Don’t be deceived by anyone who tells you otherwise. Network, learn and remain committed to your dreams,” he advised.

Presenting a paper titled “Old Wisdom, New Ideas,” Dr. Jekse Le’an, Director of Administration and Finance at PLASMIDA, emphasised that successful businesses are built on character, integrity and excellent customer experience.

He said branding is not merely about logos or designs but about the lasting impression customers have after interacting with a business.

Dr. Le’an encouraged young entrepreneurs to acquire practical skills, exercise patience and learn from experienced business owners, warning that many businesses fail within their first two years due to lack of experience and poor customer service.

Speaking on “Innovation, Branding and Sustainability,” Victor Kuchili said innovation remains the only sustainable competitive advantage in today’s business environment.

He warned that many businesses collapse because they fail to adapt to changing market realities, urging entrepreneurs to understand their target audience, build strong brands and consistently engage their customers.

“People don’t buy products; they buy benefits. If you’re not listening to your customers, someone else will, and they will win the market,” he said.

Also delivering a lecture on “Business Growth and Entrepreneur Mindset,” Sylvia Matlong challenged participants to cultivate positive attitudes towards business and continuous learning.

She identified upbringing, environment and life experiences as the three major factors influencing entrepreneurial mindset, urging participants to surround themselves with positive influences and remain committed to personal development.

Matlong advised entrepreneurs to understand their customers, create value, market consistently and never stop learning, stressing that business growth requires deliberate effort and resilience.

The event was further enlivened by captivating performances from Living Scroll, Edge and energetic dance presentations, which entertained guests and added colour to the grand finale.

The organisers also announced that the official Purple Preneur Star website would soon be launched to enable aspiring entrepreneurs to register for the reality show and access mentorship and business development opportunities.

The event climaxed with the presentation of the Purple Legacy Awards to distinguished individuals for their outstanding contributions to entrepreneurship, leadership and the creative industry.

Among the recipients were veteran Nollywood actor Sani Mu’azu, Sir Edward Fom Pam, Dr. Ulan Victoria Jatau, alongside other notable personalities honoured for their impact in their respective fields.

When a Yoruba groom Jeremiah travelled hundreds of kilometres from southwestern Nigeria to marry his Mwaghavul bride Nanbam in Plateau State, the celebration became far more than the union of two people.

It became a meeting of histories, traditions and identities. It became a reminder that Nigeria’s greatest stories are often told not in conference rooms or government policies, but around family gatherings, cultural ceremonies and shared celebrations.

Over one unforgettable weekend in Jos, guests witnessed Yoruba customs intertwine seamlessly with Mwaghavul traditions. The talking drums answered traditional Plateau music. Indigenous attire filled the venue with colour and symbolism. Ancient customs were honoured without compromise, proving that unity does not require uniformity.

Behind the experience was Blac Events, an event management company that is quietly redefining what celebrations can mean, not only for couples, but also for communities, local businesses and destinations.

Every Wedding Is a Story Waiting to Be Told

For many event planners, weddings revolve around logistics.

For Blac Events, they begin with a story.

Before the décor is chosen, before the venue is styled and before guests arrive, the company asks one question: What story deserves to be remembered?

For this celebration, the answer was clear.

This was never simply a wedding.

It was the coming together of two kingdoms through love.

Rather than allowing one culture to dominate the other, every aspect of the event intentionally reflected both identities. Yoruba traditions stood proudly beside Mwaghavul customs, allowing guests to experience two rich cultures within one celebration.

The result was something increasingly rare in today’s event industry, an occasion that felt deeply personal rather than predictable.

At a time when many weddings across the country are beginning to resemble one another regardless of location, this celebration demonstrated that authenticity remains the ultimate luxury.

From Event Planning to Experience Design

Modern travellers are increasingly searching for experiences rather than destinations.

Blac Events understands that shift.

Instead of treating weddings as isolated occasions, the company sees them as opportunities to introduce visitors to the culture, creativity and hospitality of the communities hosting them.

For guests arriving from Lagos, Ibadan, Abuja and other cities, Jos was no longer simply a point on the map.

It became a destination to discover what makes it the Home of Peace and Tourism.

That philosophy naturally aligned with Experience Plateau, a travel and tourism booking agency, committed to showcasing Plateau State as one of Nigeria’s leading cultural and tourism destinations.

Together, both organisations transformed the wedding into an immersive experience that extended far beyond the ceremony itself.

Visitors explored Plateau’s cool climate, breathtaking landscapes, thriving food scene, creative community through the 30 man orchestra powered by Synapse Collective in partnership with the Department of Music, University of Jos, and renowned hospitality. Many experienced local cuisine for the first time. Others visited tourist attractions, interacted with local creatives and left with a far richer understanding of the state than they had before arriving.

The wedding became an invitation to experience Plateau, not merely attend an event.

Weddings Can Build Local Economies

Destination weddings have long been recognised globally as drivers of economic activity.

Nigeria is beginning to discover the same opportunity.

Every guest who travels for a celebration spends beyond the wedding venue.

Hotels receive bookings.

Restaurants welcome new customers.

Transport providers move visitors across the city.

Photographers, fashion designers, makeup artists, florists, decorators, musicians, DJs, caterers, artisans, tour operators and countless small businesses all benefit from the economic ripple effect.

One celebration can activate dozens of local enterprises.

Viewed through this lens, weddings become more than private ceremonies.

They become engines of local economic development.

The collaboration between Blac Events and Experience Plateau demonstrates how Nigeria’s events industry can contribute meaningfully to tourism, hospitality and the creative economy when celebrations are intentionally connected to place.

Changing the Narrative About Plateau

For decades, conversations about Plateau have often been shaped by headlines that failed to capture the state’s full identity.

Yet visitors continue to discover something different.

They encounter rolling hills, cool weather, welcoming communities, vibrant cultural heritage, artistic talent and a hospitality ecosystem eager to welcome travellers.

Events like this become powerful forms of storytelling.

They allow visitors to experience Plateau firsthand rather than through secondhand perceptions.

Every guest who returns home becomes an ambassador for the destination, carrying stories that no advertisement could communicate as effectively.

That may be one of tourism’s most powerful marketing tools.

The Future Belongs to Experience Curators

Luxury today is no longer defined solely by extravagant venues or elaborate decorations.

It is defined by emotional connection.

Guests may forget the floral arrangements.

They may struggle to remember the exact colour palette.

But they rarely forget how an event made them feel.

That is the philosophy Blac Events is helping to champion.

Its work suggests that the future of event management lies not simply in planning celebrations, but in curating experiences that preserve culture, foster understanding and create lasting memories.

More Than a Wedding

For the Yoruba families who travelled north, the celebration became an introduction to the richness of Mwaghavul culture and the beauty of Plateau State.

For the Mwaghavul families, it was an opportunity to proudly share their heritage while embracing another.

For many guests, assumptions gave way to appreciation as conversations, food, music and tradition dissolved unfamiliarity.

Perhaps that is the greatest success of celebrations like these.

They remind Nigerians that diversity is not something to overcome.

It is something to celebrate.

In a nation often defined by its differences, this wedding offered another narrative—one where culture becomes a bridge rather than a barrier, tourism grows through authentic experiences, hospitality strengthens local economies and love creates space for understanding.

As Nigeria’s events industry continues to evolve, companies like Blac Events are showing that the future belongs to experience curators, professionals who understand that the most memorable celebrations do more than entertain.

They preserve heritage. They stimulate tourism. They support local businesses. They reshape perceptions.

And, above all, they bring people together.

For one remarkable weekend in Jos, a Yoruba groom and a Mwaghavul bride reminded everyone that the most powerful journeys are not measured by distance travelled, but by the bridges built between cultures.

A new evangelism initiative, Project 1K to 1B, has been launched in Jos with a vision to mobilize believers to actively share the Gospel and lead more people to Jesus Christ.

The movement, themed “Saviours Shall Arise From Jos,” is inspired by the scripture in Obadiah 1:21, which declares, “And the kingdom shall be the Lord’s.” Organizers say the project seeks to raise 1,000 believers who are burdened for souls, committed to evangelism, and willing to reach at least one person with the Gospel within one year.

According to the organizers, Project 1K to 1B is more than a conference; it is a call for believers to embrace God’s heart for the lost and become active witnesses of Jesus Christ in their communities and beyond.

The initiative is built around the vision of “One Believer, One Soul, One Year,” with the goal of equipping and mobilizing Christians for intentional soul-winning and discipleship.

As part of the movement, a Teaching and Training Conference has been scheduled for June 27, 2026, at The Godlife Assembly, Yingi, beginning at 10:30 a.m.

This will be followed by a Strategic, Training and Activation Conference on July 4, 2026, at ECWA Headquarters Church, Jos, starting at 9:00 a.m.

The conferences will feature teachings and practical sessions aimed at equipping participants to effectively communicate the Gospel and engage in evangelism. Organizers describe the gatherings as an opportunity for believers to receive training, inspiration, and activation for kingdom impact.

Among the guest speakers expected at the conferences are Pastor Chingtok Ishaku, Apostle Karis Ameh-Wealth, Apostle Gideon Odoma, Pastor Michael Ramsden, and Prophet Nanpon Majau.

The events will also feature worship ministrations by Pastor Edosa Nengak Ishaku, Pastor Joses Jack, Pastor Zadok Freeman, and the Word of Life Choir.

Speaking on the vision behind the movement, the organizers said they are trusting God to awaken believers to His passion for souls and raise a generation committed to spreading the Gospel across cities, communities, and nations.

They emphasized that if 1,000 believers each lead one person to Christ and disciple them within a year, the impact could create a powerful wave of transformation and spiritual growth.

Registration has been opened to interested participants, with organizers encouraging believers from different denominations and backgrounds to be part of the movement.

The campaign is being promoted under the hashtags #1Believer1Soul1Year, #Project1Kto1B, and #SavioursArise, reflecting its mission to see more people encounter Jesus Christ through personal evangelism and discipleship.
