President Muhammadu Buhari has urged Nigerians to reelect him for a second term next year, assuring that they will not regret their decision.

Buhari also said his quest for a second term in office was justifiable having delivered on his 2015 campaign promises.

He argued he had addressed the three key areas of security, economy and fight against corruption that he promised.

The President spoke on Friday at the official flag-off of the South South zonal presidential campaign rally at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo Akwa Ibom State.

He challenged the opposition to prove he has not delivered in the areas of security, economy and anti-corruption fight.

On security, Buhari said his administration has tackled the problem of Boko Haram insurgency in the Northeast to be barest minimum, adding no local government area in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states is under the control of the insurgents like under the immediate past government

The APC presidential candidate also scored the administration high on the improvement of the economy, adding his government has guaranteed food security.

Buhari said his anti-corruption crusade of his administration has yielded benefits to the economy as stolen monies were being recovered and channeled to developmental purposes.

“I am standing here to express my gratitude and appreciation to my party for organizing this get together to start the campaign against next year.

“If you recall in 2015, we went across the length and breadth of this country and we made our campaign on three issues of security, economy and fight against corruption.

“I will like those who want to challenge me at any level at any constituency to doubt our contributions. First the security situation in the Northeast was really worse in the sense that when we came the Boko Haram was holding 17 local government areas in Bornu and Yobe states.

“They are not holding physically any local government area now. They have resorted to indoctrinating young men especially girls to carry bombs and explode themselves in churches, mosques, in market places and inotor parks. I assure you that eventually we are going to clear them off the country.

“The second thing is about the economy. Our population is over 60 percent of young men and women below 30 years. Our problem is unemployment and we are assessing it seriously. We have achieved food security”.

Buhari said he has stemmed the evil of corruption, recovered stolen monies from corrupt Nigerians and plucked all areas of leakage especially through the Treasury Single Account (TSA).

He maintained he would not relent on fighting corruption as all government funds must be used for the purposes of development and securing a good future for the country.
