In a recent interview, Mrs Naanret Asabe Manset, the Accountant General of Plateau State, highlighted the significant strides made under the new administration to enhance the proficiency of accountants within the state.
Speaking at a four-day seminar designed to address knowledge gaps among accounting officers, Manset emphasized the importance of professional development to ensure that local accountants can compete globally.
“When the new administration came in, in May, 2023 and I resumed in August, we noticed that there was a lot of gap, especially knowledge gap, in the workforce,” Manset explained.
She added that the workshop, featuring top-notch facilitators, aims to update the accountants’ knowledge and bring them up to speed with global standards.
The initiative has seen massive attendance and active participation, reflecting the commitment of the state’s accountants to professional growth.
Manset expressed satisfaction with the seminar’s progress, noting, “Today is day three of a four-day seminar and we are satisfied with what we have gotten so far.
Our facilitators are top-notch facilitators. They are world-class facilitators and we are happy with the service that they are delivering.” She emphasized that the training, the first of its kind in a long while, was crucial for updating the participants’ skills and ensuring they remain competitive.
Furthermore, Manset commended the administration’s prudent financial management under Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang.
She highlighted the state’s transparency and effective use of funds, particularly in handling palliative measures. “Our topic for this program is understanding public finance management in a modern economy. And I will start by commending His Excellency Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang for being very prudent and showing us how to manage public finances,” Manset stated.
She assured that Plateau State’s financial records are transparent and well-documented, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to delivering the dividends of democracy to its citizens.
As the seminar approaches its conclusion, participants are expected to provide feedback, which will be used to further refine future training programs.
This initiative is part of a broader effort by the Plateau State government to ensure accountability, enhance public financial management, and improve the overall efficiency of its workforce.
