The Plateau State chapter of the Nigeria Postal Service (NIPOST) has commemorated the 2026 World Post Day with a road walk and the presentation of awards to two students of St. Louis College, Jos, to celebrate the contributions of postal services to society.

The event, held on October 9, was organised under the theme, “One Postal Network, Infinite Possibilities,” which highlights the role of postal networks in connecting people, communities and nations while creating opportunities for social and economic development.

Speaking during the commemoration, the State Director of NIPOST, Mrs Peace Ezema, said the annual celebration provided an opportunity to appreciate postal workers and raise public awareness about the importance of the service.

She explained that postal services had evolved beyond the traditional delivery of letters and parcels to include logistics, e-commerce and financial services, particularly in rural communities where access to banking facilities remained limited.

Ezema noted that the transformation of the postal sector reflected the need to adapt to changing times and meet the growing demands of individuals, businesses and communities.

She said, “The post is not just about posting letters and then delivering items. It’s all about connectivity. Connecting countries, connecting communities, connecting people.”

The state director also stressed the importance of innovation in sustaining the organisation, noting that the gradual decline in traditional mail services had made it necessary for NIPOST to explore new opportunities and expand its range of services.

The celebration featured a road walk to create awareness about the relevance of postal services, alongside the recognition of two students of St. Louis College as part of activities marking the global event.
