The Plateau State Government has announced plans to consider ad-hoc academic staff for employment in response to issues raised over recent recruitment exercises in tertiary institutions across the state.

This was disclosed in a press release signed by Arc. Samuel N. Jatau, Secretary to the Government of the State, following a meeting convened by Governor Caleb Mutfwang with Chairmen of Councils, Heads of Tertiary Institutions, and other stakeholders.

“Academic Staff who were not captured in the appointments that are 50 years and above could be reconsidered where their services are required as contract staff.”

The government also gave assurance that academic staff who went through the interview process but were not employed will be reviewed for possible engagement.

“Ad-hoc academic staff who applied and were interviewed will be considered in areas of need for employment.”

To ensure fairness and recognition of long service, institutions have been directed to establish internal committees to assess and compensate staff who have served in ad-hoc positions for five years or more.

“Every Institution is to set up an internal committee to appraise and come up with some form of compensation for those who have served as Ad-hoc staff over a period of 5 years and above.”

A Help Desk has also been created at the Ministry of Education to handle complaints from individuals who have court judgments in their favour and believe they were unfairly treated. Complaints are to be submitted on or before July 7, 2025.

These measures reflect the government’s commitment to fairness and inclusivity in its employment processes within the education sector.
