Sen. Simon Mwadkwon, PhD, the senator for Plateau North and the Senate Minority Leader of the 10th Assembly, is honouring Nigeria and its people on the occasion of the 63rd anniversary of the country’s independence.

The senator added in a letter of congratulations issued out by his Director, Media & Publicity, Comrade Friday Bako that the nation’s 63 years of existence have been marked by several difficulties that have hampered its growth, peace, and glory.

The lawmaker praised the citizens for maintaining their fortitude in the face of great adversity and for making their fair share of contributions to the national prosperity. He urged Nigerians to maintain their optimism and show true patriotism in order to make their country great and successful.

“The Nation is being faced with numerous challenges ranging from insecurity, rising inflation, poor standard of living, poverty, poor infrastructural development, ethnic rivalry, religious bigotry just to mention but a few that have adversely affected its unity and progress.

“May I enjoin all Citizens to display unity of purpose and true patriotism to make the Nation great and overcome the challenges bedeviling it” he said.

While praising the founding fathers of the country for their contributions to attaining independence, he cautioned the populace to put the country’s interests first and endeavour to create a more unified, peaceful, and wealthy society.

“Our challenges are surmountable and all hands must be on deck to achieve that feat, it is therefore important to activate genuine patriotism, remain prayerful and be more committed to achieving a better, greater and stronger Nation irrespective of our ethnic, religious and political inclinations.

I call on elected and appointed Leaders to prioritize national interest above any parochial consideration, in so doing achieving a more united and prosperous Nation is possible” he hinted.

He prayed for a smooth celebration that would usher in a New Nigeria where the country’s enormous people and natural resources would be fully utilised to make it great and raise it to enviable heights.
